Medieval town of Rhodes and Kallithea Springs

(approximately 3 hours)

Medieval history and blue waters, strong light and cool shade, stories and colors…
A tour that can match almost every taste and may be combined with other special wishes of yours, such as swimming, water sports or lunch close to the seafront.

We will start with a walk in the old town, where walking through narrow paths and picturesque squares history slowly unfolds. The medieval city hides evidence of the glorious ancient times, when the island was flourishing in the eastern Mediterranean. It offers the best scenery for understanding the complicated medieval years and get in touch with the way of life of the Knights of St. John. Mosques and baths reveal the presence of the Ottomans on the island for almost 400 years, the synagogue proves the once prosperous Jewish community and the large number of small Greek Orthodox churches fulfill a great mosaic of different cultures.

The Street of the Knights, the old hospital of the Knights, the Palace of the Grand Master and the Suleiman Mosque are only some of the monuments that we will see together and explain you all about.

Thereafter we will depart from the old town in order to drive to The Springs of Kallithea located on the eastern side of the island (only 20min.). The site was famous for the healing effects of its water since ancient times. However it was during the Italian period (1912-1943) that the complex of the old spas was constructed. Nowadays the spas are not active any more but the old buildings have recently been renovated, reopened to the public and often used for art exhibitions. The pebble stone mosaics are some of the most beautiful on the island. The architecture is magnificent, playing with light and shade, the view of the deep blue water just wonderful….
