Walking tour of the old town with 2 museums

(Approximately 3 hours)

We start our tour from the port or from your hotel (if it is somewhere close to the town center) or we can even meet outside the Old town. We walk through the town together. Along the way we will see all the great and important buildings dating back to the medieval times, pass through the main streets and visit the area of the collacium (Administrations area of the Knights).

In this special part of the town, the Knights of st John the Baptist build their inns -most of them perfectly preserved until today- their hospital, where we now house the archaeological museum, their Grand Master's Palace and many other buildings, among them, important churches. Visiting the museum, not only you can admire the wards of the authentic hospital of the 15th century, but the great exhibits of the ancient Greek world as well.

After visiting the museum, we shall be on our way to the Grand Master's Palace build on the top of the street of the Knight's.
It is one of the most important Greek museums famous for its wonderful mosaic collection and its authentic 16th-17th and 18th century furniture. It is constructed on the top of the ruins of the original Knight's Palace which was destroyed of an explosion in the year 1856. The new one, built during the Italian occupation, (1912-1943) meant to be the summer palace for Victor Emmanuel the 2nd King and Emperor of Italy and for the notorious Mussolini.

*Medium walking capability is required
